Basic Markdown Syntax

Prose

The majority of what you are going to want to do with markdown is write normal prose.

In this case simply write what you want to write, there are only a few things you need to know.

Headers/Titles

The simplest way for separating sections is Headers.

The biggest of these can be done with three or more equals signs under a line of text, but can be achieved with a ‘#’ sign too.

Big Title (H1)
===============

# Another Equaly Big (H1) Title

In HTML those would be called ‘H1’. Smaller titles can be achieved with an dash undeline ‘-’ or incresing the number of ‘#’s.

Medium (H2) Title
---------------

## Another Medium (H2) Title

### Small (H3) Title

#### Tiny (H4) Title

These will vary depending on the design (css) of your site, but basically look something like this.

Big (H1) Title

Medium (H2) Title

Small (H3) Title

Tiny (H4) Title

Normally the page will have an “H1” Title already, based on the “#title:” you provided, so apart from that you should mostly use H2 and smaller.

Bullets

Bullet Points and numbers are also useful.

They can be achieved using a * followed by a space at the beginning of a line. They can also be nested with tabs.

* Bullet 1
* Bullet 2
* Etc ...
    * Tabbed Bullet

Numbered Bullets can be achieved with a number and a ‘.’ though this will ignore the actual numbers you used

1. Item 1
1. Item 2

Will fill in the numbers for you.
